Meet Matthew

As a counselling psychologist, creating a safe, non-judgmental space is at the core of my practice, where clients can freely explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Through this process, profound insights are gained, leading to lasting transformation. I firmly believe that authentic connections and self-awareness are essential for mental and emotional health, and I am dedicated to supporting my clients in their journey towards positive change.

FAQ

Therapy is not exclusive to individuals with diagnosed issues; it is open to anyone seeking personal growth and self-awareness. Echoing Erving Polster’s sentiment that “Therapy is too good to be limited to the sick,” our approach acknowledges but also goes beyond specific diagnoses. It is designed for anyone keen on exploring and understanding their experiences, patterns, and relationships.

The first session serves as a starting point where you and your psychologist get to know each other a bit better. Your psychologist will then gather some information such as the reason for seeking counselling and other important details that may be related. They will then explain their therapeutic process and approach to your situation and allow space for you to ask any questions or express any expectations.

The session can be viewed as a mutual assessment where you can decide whether you will feel comfortable working with the psychologist and if you would like to start therapy with them.

Each session is 60 minutes

Each person embarks on a unique therapeutic journey. The duration and intensity of therapy are influenced by the nature and severity of the issue, as well as the objectives established. As a point of reference, short-term therapy typically lasts for 5 to 10 sessions, while medium-term therapy lasts around 12-15 sessions.

Sessions typically take place once a week, however this may change as the therapeutic needs shift.

Lifespace Counselling Psychology has made provision for both medical aid claims and private payments.

For clients with medical aid, our fees are structured per Medical Aid rates.

For clients paying privately, our discounted fee is R1080 per session. (payable via EFT or Card)

While Lifespace Counselling Psychology will electronically submit claims to medical aids, the client assumes responsibility for settling the account in the event of non-payment.

It is their responsibility to confirm the availability of funds and ascertain whether their plan includes coverage for psychotherapy.

All discussions within the therapeutic setting are maintained as confidential and private. Your comfort and assurance of privacy are of utmost importance, and no information about your participation in therapy will be disclosed without your explicit written request for a release of information.

Nevertheless, it is crucial to acknowledge legal limitations on confidentiality. These limitations include situations such as when a client poses a threat to themselves or others, issues a credible threat of violence towards an identifiable individual, discloses instances of child, elder, or dependent adult abuse, or in cases where a court order mandates disclosure.

If confidentiality is a matter of concern for you, please raise it with your therapist during your initial session, and we will gladly address and discuss any apprehensions you may have.
